The average price for crystal sugar (Icumsa color 130-180) in Brazil is at BRL61.39 (US$19.39) per bag of 50 kilos in January, according to CEPEA/ESALQ index, the lowest value for the offseason since January 2015, reports Sugaronline.

In January 2015, the price index for crystal sugar averaged BRL59.89/bag (US$18.91). In January 2016, the average price for crystal sugar was at BRL88.01/bag (US$27.8), and in January 2017, the index averaged BRL87.27/bag (US$27.57).

Crystal sugar price has been decreasing since the start of the year, because there is enough sugar in the market to supply demand, according to analysts at the Centre for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea).

Despite the price fall, liquidity has increased in the period, with higher volumes traded.
