Rusagro and Shchelkovo Agrokhim invested RUB30 million (US$520,432) in the implementation of the sugar beet breeding center in the Ramon district of the Voronezh region, Abireg reports, according to Sugar.ru.

They clarified that the joint company of the holdings - "Soyuzem beet" - has already repaired and equipped the necessary equipment with a greenhouse complex, made major repairs of laboratories and office rooms, and installed a fence to protect the insulator field.

Now "Soyuzem beet" produces 18 varieties of sugar beet hybrids for seed transfer to the state for variety testing. It should be noted that the amount of investment in the project is RUB500 million.

In May Rusagro and Shchelkovo Agrokhim established a new legal entity for the future project - OOO Soyuzem beet. The company is financed on a 50/50 basis. The breeding center is set up on the basis of the All-Russia Research Institute of Sugar Beet. It includes a greenhouse complex, a storage facility for seed with an automated controlled temperature and humidity regime, a root cellar and an insulator field. The first hybrids are expected by 2020. It should be noted that the center will create a system of primary seed production that can meet the needs of the domestic market for sugar beet seeds to replace 40% of imports.
