Record-setting Southwest Monsoon Season Ends, India – 6th October 2020

The southwest monsoon has receded in most parts of the country, ending the season (Jun/Sep) with cumulative rainfall nine percent higher than the normal fifty-year average of 881 millimeters. This year experienced the third highest seasonal rainfall level since 1990, after 1994 and last year. Planting area for the kharif crop is one percent higher than last year, with farmers dedicating significant area to crops that have assured central/state government procurement.
