Finally, export subsidies have been approved but it won’t take the pressure off too much as the world market moves lower in response to the need for India to offload 15 million tonnes, even if less than half of that is subsidised.
India has finally cleared the air with its much-awaited decision on its sugar export program for the current sugar season ending September 2020. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a subsidy of INR35 billion for export of 6 mil-lion metric tonnes of the sweetener during 2020/21.
