Pointing the finger at the government for the woes of sugarcane mills may seem like shifting blame, but what if it’s the truth?
After last year’s setback due to floods that badly damaged cane crops in Maharashtra and Karnataka, Indian sugar production is estimated at as much as 31.02 million tonnes, assuming a diversion of 2 million tonnes for ethanol, according to Indian Sugar Mills Association. This is 13% more than last season’s output of 27.42 million tonnes.
