Record breaking production for sugar and ethanol could still turn sour due to policy intervention.
As of June 6, Indian sugar mills have processed 35.23 million tonnes of sugar. That has led Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) to revise up its estimate for the ongoing sugar season (SS) to 36 million tonnes of sugar, after taking into account the likely diversion of 3.4 million tonnes of sugar equivalent to ethanol.
